Here is the best “Classic Chili” recipe we have found until now. This is gonna smell and look delicious.

Ingredients of Classic Chili

  1. It’s of Veggies.
  2. Prepare 1 tbsp of vegetable oil (for sautéing).
  3. You need 1 of large white onion (chopped).
  4. You need 2 of bell peppers - 1 red & 1 green (chopped).
  5. Prepare 1/2 cup of celery (chopped).
  6. Take of Meat.
  7. You need 2 lb of lean ground beef.
  8. Take of Sauce.
  9. It’s 30 oz of tomato sauce (no/low sodium).
  10. It’s 28 oz of crushed tomatoes (undrained).
  11. Take 2 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce.
  12. Make ready 3 tbsp of chili powder.
  13. You need 1 tbsp of garlic powder.
  14. Prepare 2 tsp of ground cumin.
  15. It’s 1 tsp of Italian seasoning.
  16. Make ready 1 tsp of smoked paprika.
  17. It’s 1 tsp of chipotle (or regular) pepper flakes (adjust to taste).
  18. It’s of (to taste) salt.
  19. Make ready of (to taste) pepper.
  20. You need 1 cup of water (if needed).
  21. It’s of Beans (OPTIONAL).
  22. Make ready 32 oz of red kidney beans (rinsed and drained).

Classic Chili step by step

  1. Prep ingredients..
  2. Heat a soup kettle or Dutch oven. Once hot, heat the oil in prep for sautéing the veggies..
  3. Add the Veggies and sauté until tender. ~15 min..
  4. If you need the room, remove the Veggies from the pan. Brown the Meat. ~15 min..
  5. When the meat is brown, drain the juices and oil from the pan..
  6. Stir in the Sauce ingredients with the Meat and Veggies.

TIP: start light on the salt and pepper. More can be added later, to taste. Only add the water if the consistency is looking thicker than you prefer..

  1. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for at least 20 minutes. Stir occasionally..
  2. The flavor develops more over time, so if you have the time, continue simmering for another 30-120 minutes (or more!).
  3. Taste periodically through cooking. Add salt, pepper, and/or water as needed..
  4. If you're someone who likes Beans in their chili, add them 10-20 minutes before you're ready to eat. Simmer until the Beans are heated through.
