Tuvar/Arhaar Dal: Bong Style- (Without Onion & Garlic) 💁🏻‍♀️ step by step

  1. Wash & Soak the Dal for at least 30-60 mins time & then straining the water- pressure cook the same until, well cooked, let the pressure go off- until then, set aside..
  2. In a frying pan/wok: Add in the cooking oil over the medium-high flame & then, add into the same- All the Tempering Spices, one after the other & sauté until it starts spluttering & releases nice aroma..
  3. Now, add in the chopped tomatoes & some salt & sauté until the tomatoes are well cooked & becomes mushy- Also, at this point- Add in the crushed ginger or paste & keep sautéing..
  4. Once done: Add in the Cumins & Coriander Powder, Turmeric & Red Chilli Powder & mix well until nicely combined, also add in some Sugar (as per taste- but this particular dish tastes a bit sweet, hence I’ve used 1 tbsp sugar).
  5. Once all are mixed & well sautéed & the raw smell of the spices & tomatoes are gone & everything’s well combined- Add in the cooked dal into it & give it a good mix until all are well incorporated.
  6. Now, lower the flame & cover the lid & allow it to cook for about 8-10 mins time, stirring occasionally in between- also, checking the salt & sugar at this point (adjust, if it’s required).
  7. Once done: Turn off the flame & allow it to sit on the oven itself, with the lid on- for about the next 10-15 mins time- Also, add in the Roasted Cumins Powder now in order to incorporate its fine aroma into it, while it’s in its standby position.
  8. Serve absolutely piping hot with equally piping hot Steamed Rice 🍚 & sabji & fritters of your choice & ENJOY…💁🏻‍♀️.
